Hotel | Skuggi Hotel is situated at the eastern edge of the centre, on the same street as the National Museum of Iceland and the National Theatre. The Laugavegur shopping street, Sundhöllin outdoor swimming pool and Hallgrímskirkja Church are within walking distance.

Elegant hotel inspired by the forces of nature
Skuggi Hotel is on Hverfisgata, which was one of the city’s busiest streets at the beginning of the 20th century. The National Museum of Iceland and the National Theatre are also in Hverfisgata. It is very close to the Laugavegur shopping street with its shops, cafés, restaurants and galleries.

Also within walking distance is Sundhöllin, which is one of Reykjavík’s oldest public bath houses. Sundhöllin has both indoor and outdoor pools and a sun deck with views over Hallgrímskirkja (which is also within walking distance).

The hotel is inspired by Icelandic photographer Ragnar Axelsson’s photographs of Icelandic nature and the hunters, fisherman and farmers who live close to the poles, at the very limits of what is possible. Right from the moment you step into the reception you will see an enormous version of one of his photos. The hotel is also inspired by the grey tones in Axelsson’s photos, which might not sound overly inviting, but in fact fill the hotel with warmth and elegance.

Cosy hotel with Iceland as its inspiration
As with the rest of the hotel, the rooms are inspired by Ragnar Axelsson’s photographs. Above each bed, you’ll find a quotation from Axelsson’s book Behind the Mountains, and there is a copy of the book in each room. All the rooms have parquet floors and are decorated in cosy, muffled tones of warming grey.
